Uttarakhand Rain

After experiencing heavy downpour, rains took a declining trend in Uttarakhand and in the last 24 hours, rain intensity as compared with the day before reduced gradually. From moderate to heavy showers on June 29, the rain went on to lash in light to isolated moderate intensity in the last 24 hours. However, now moderate rains are foreseen for parts of Uttarakhand.

Within a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday, Pantnagar recorded 7.2 mm of rains, Nainital 6 mm, Tehri 5.1 mm, Dehradun 0.6 mm while Haridwar witnessed very light spells of 0.4 mm.

As per Skymet Weather, the Western Disturbance as an upper air circulation lies over East Jammu and Kashmir and is now moving away. A trough reaching up to East Assam is also likely to shift towards the north. Thus, the situation is favorable for moderate rains with isolated heavy showers to occur over many parts of the state in the next 24-48 hours.

Districts in the higher reaches like Nainital, Pantnagar, Champawat, Pithoragarh, Lahaul Spiti, Badrinath, and Kedarnath are most likely to witness moderate rains. While Mussoorie, Dehradun, and Haridwar may also see some good showers.

Being situated at an elevation and affected by weather systems almost all throughout the year, the weather across the hills mostly remain pleasant which is the reason tourists often flock the hills of North India.

Since not many heavy falls are anticipated, possibilities of the landslide will reduce. Though as due to the recent moderate to heavy downpour over many parts of the state, the soil has become loose in nature, any further good showers may result in minor landslides as well. Thus the possibility of landslides which was the incident in the recent past is minimized but cannot be completely ruled out.
