Coastal Tamil Nadu has been observing good rains since last 48 hours. Scattered rains were also witnessed in the interior parts. This region falls under the rain shadow area and more rains are recorded during Northeast Monsoon. However, this year Tamil Nadu has been experiencing good showers during the Southwest Monsoon as well.

A cyclonic circulation has formed over west central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal, South Andhra Pradesh and North Tamil Nadu coast. This system is expected to increase the rainfall activity over the state.

During the next 24 to 48 hours, good showers are expected over Coastal Tamil Nadu. During this period, interiors of the state are also likely to receive light to moderate rain. Thereafter, rainfall intensity will reduce significantly over Tamil Nadu. However, North Coastal Tamil Nadu will continue to receive scattered rain thundershowers.
