More rains to lash Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh; intensity to reduce after 24 hours

Since last few days, Rayalaseema has been observing heavy to very heavy rain and thundershowers. In contrast, the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh have been witnessing lesser intensity of rains.

In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Cuddappah recorded moderate rainfall of 13 mm, Machilipatnam 5.5 mm, Ongole 2 mm and Kurnool 1.2 mm.

These weather conditions can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation is seen over the southeast Arabian Sea. A trough is also seen extending from this above-mentioned cyclonic circulation over east central Bay of Bengal up to Rayalaseema.

Due to the effect of these weather systems over the state, light to moderate rains with one or two spells of heavy showers is likely to continue over Rayalaseema during the next 24 hours. Whereas scattered light showers are likely over coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh during the similar time frame.

In the meantime, districts such as Ongole, Anantapur, Kurnool, Kadapa, Chittoor, Machilipatnam, Bapatla, Kavali will witness good rains during the next 24 hours. Due to occurrences of these rains over the state, comfortable weather conditions are likely for the next few days.

After 24 to 48 hours, the intensity of these rain and thundershower activities are expected to reduce gradually over the aforementioned regions. Although scattered light rains will keep occurring over Rayalaseema while isolated showers are possible over Coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh.

As on October 12, the sub-divisional rainfall distribution statistics show that Andhra Pradesh is rain surplus by 71%. In fact, if these rains continue over the entire state for next few days then, it is likely that the rainfall figures will further increase.
