Mumbai gears up for some more rains this weekend

March 10, 2016 12:10 PM |

Rain in MumbaiAfter witnessing showers last weekend, rains are all set to re-visit Mumbai yet again. According to Skymet Weather, another spell of light rain is likely over the city on March 12.

This activity will be on account of a trough which is likely to develop over coastal areas of Maharashtra. This will be further influenced by a confluence zone which is also expected to form over Madhya Maharashtra.

Earlier on March 4, Santa Cruz Observatory had recorded 10 mm of rain, surpassing the monthly average rainfall.

As per Skymet Meteorology Division in India, weather will remain dry till Friday with day temperatures settling in mid 30s. These fresh rains, though light in nature, will pave way for pleasant weather on Saturday.

However, rains will make an appearance over the city only for 24 hours. Thereafter, Sunday onwards, weather will go dry once again and mercury will soar again.

Weather of Mumbai remains practically dry during the month of March. City’s monthly average rainfall stands at 0.2 mm, which is almost negligible.

During this period of year, winter rains are confined to Northwest India. Initially due to western disturbances and thereafter on account of pre-Monsoon activity. However, most parts of Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan & Goa including Mumbai do not witness much weather activity.

In span of last 10 years, Mumbai has witnessed weather activity only three times wherein it recorded 13.1 mm in 2006, trace in 2007 and 13 mm in 2015.
