The state of Maharashtra has been experiencing subdued Monsoon conditions. In fact, rains have almost taken a backseat over most parts of the state. Sparing the Konkan division and some parts of adjoining Madhya Maharashtra, rains are almost nil over the other regions.

On the last day too, parts of Konkan received some light with isolated moderate rains, meanwhile, rains remained mainly light over Madhya Maharashtra. In fact, after a long time, an isolated pocket of Marathwada, Nanded has witnessed light spells.

In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Sunday, Mahabaleshwar recorded 12 mm of rains, Ratnagiri 7 mm, Nanded 7 mm, Harnai 4 mm, Vengurla 3 mm and Mumbai recorded 4 mm of rains.

We expect rains to increase over Vidarbha for the next 24 to 48 hours in places like Nagpur, Akola, and Yeotmal that may receive one or two moderate spells of rains. However, dry weather would continue over Marathwada and parts of Madhya Maharashtra.

Cities like Mumbai, Pune, Nashik may also receive light spells, however, Mahabaleshwar and Ratnagiri may receive moderate showers. Strong winds from the Arabian Sea would be responsible for these rains over Konkan. On the other hand, due to the formation of the low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and neighborhood and the cyclonic circulation over South Odisha, rains are expected to increase over Vidarbha.

At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:

Farmers of Vidarbha region are advised to postpone crop irrigation and to control weeds in the crop by undertaking intercultural operations. Due to the cloudy and humid weather, oily spot disease may occur on pomegranate.

Hence, farmers are advised to take proper spraying to avoid economic loss. Farmers of Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra are suggested to provide protective irrigation to Kharif crops as per their requirement. Control the mealy bug on vegetable and Papaya by spraying pesticides with optimum quantity.
