Mumbai rains cross 600 mm mark, highest in over a decadeMumbai rains have been intense and widespread during the last few days. While Monsoon showers remained far and few during the initial days in the month of September, now weather conditions have reversed giving moderate to heavy rains over the region.

The last 24 hours were no different and the city received heavy rains. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Colaba observatory recorded 45 mm of rainfall. Also, heavy rains of 39.7 mm were witnessed over the Santa Cruz observatory during the same time frame.

Rains have reduced from the city during the past 24 hours. Now, during the next 24 hours as well, Monsoon rains will be moderate in nature only. However, the possibility of a few heavy spells over some parts of Mumbai cannot be ruled out.

Mumbai surpassed its monthly rains a few days ago which once seemed like a daunting target. So far, Mumbai has recorded a whopping 609.6 mm of rains against its monthly mean of 312.3 mm. Thus, Mumbai rains have easily been able to surpass the 600 mm mark without much difficulty.

The highest rains that Mumbai received in the month of September was in the year 2012 when 563.9 mm rains were witnessed. The all-time monthly high for Mumbai stands at 920 mm which occurred in the year 1954. With another week left in September, Mumbai may be able to surpass the 700 mm mark as well.
