Rain in Mumbai

During the last 24 hours, Mumbai has received heavy rains and thundershower activities. These rains activities mainly commenced yesterday evening when many parts of Mumbai particularly Badlapur and adjoining suburban areas received intense rain and thundershowers accompanied with gusty winds. Wind speed was very high in some parts reaching up to 70-80 kmph. Although the two major observatories of Santa Cruz and Colaba did not receive enough rains, few thundershowers were recorded there as well.

The Cyclonic Circulation which was persisting over South Madhya Maharashtra has now moved in North-westerly direction. At present, the system can be seen over Konkan and Goa and adjoining parts of the Northeast Arabian Sea.

Therefore, we expect few moderate spells of rain and thundershowers over Mumbai and suburbs today as well. However, the intensity will remain concentrated more over the suburban areas of Mumbai. Chances of waterlogging in low lying areas cannot be ruled out. However, the rain activity will only be short spelled, and no continuous activity is being forecast for the city.

The effect of the above Cyclonic Circulation will not remain constricted to Mumbai alone. Many other parts of Madhya Maharashtra including Pune will also receive on and off rains and thundershower activities today.
