After battering the city with heavy rains, Mumbai rains have now taken a back seat. The entertainment capital has seen few spells of light rains and thundershowers only. Last 24 hours brought back the horror of August 29, wherein Mumbai had recorded 303 mm of rain.

Though the intensity of rain was not that much but were enough to cripple the daily life. Around 108 flights were affected, while several local and national trains were running way behind the schedule.

Colaba Observatory recorded 76 mm of rain in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, while Santa Cruz Observatory saw 63 mm of rain.

According to Skymet Weather, these rains could be attributed to the trough running from North Konkan region to the low pressure area over East Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas.

However, now, this trough has merge with the low pressure area. With this, rains will reduce over Mumbai and nearby areas but with the availability of lots of moisture in the atmosphere, localised development of thunderclouds cannot be ruled out.

Weather is likely to be extremely pleasant for another 24 hours but temperatures will start rising again after that. As a result, the warm and humid weather conditions will crawl back.

This month till now, the city has already recorded double of its normal average rainfall. Till September 21, Mumbai has recorded 601.89 mm of rain against the normal of 312.3 mm.
