Mumbai, Solapur, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur and Pune to witness first good spell of Pre-Monsoon rain

April 14, 2019 8:19 AM |

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday, few parts of Maharashtra particularly Madhya Maharashtra region received fairly widespread rain and thundershower activities along with isolated dust storm. Places like Solapur, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur and Pune received scattered rains.

These weather activities have been attributed to the cyclonic circulation that was persisting over South Madhya Maharashtra and a trough was extending from West Madhya Pradesh to Karnataka across parts of Maharashtra.

Now these weather systems are expected to persist and gradually strengthen. Therefore, scattered rain and thundershowers accompanied with isolated hailstorm activities are expected to occur today over parts of Maharashtra particularly Madhya Maharashtra and Vidarbha region.

On April 15 and 16, we expect the intensity and spread of weather activities to increase over Maharashtra and many parts may receive light to moderate rain and thundershower activities accompanied with strong winds and lightning strikes. Isolated hailstorm cannot be ruled out.

The financial capital of our country, Mumbai may also receive few spells of rain and thundershowers during this period.

By April 17, rains will start decreasing as the weather systems will move away eastwards. But on April 17, isolated weather activities may occur over few places in Maharashtra. However, Konkan & Goa and Madhya Pradesh will remain almost dry. Thus, we can say that Maharashtra is all set to witness its first good spell of Pre-Monsoon rains.
