As per weathermen, on January 7 and 8, Mumbai observed a very cool night as the minimum temperature dropped to 14°C, which was over 5°C below normal. The reason for the significant drop in temperature can be attributed to the continuous flow of cool northerly winds.

These inland winds are traveling from Madhya Pradesh where the temperatures are already settling very low. In fact, in many places, the minimums are in single digit. Not only this, these chilly winds have also led to a slight drop in the maximum temperatures over Mumbai. The day temperature settled at 31.4 degrees in the past day.

However, since last night the direction of winds has changed from northerly to easterly and the minimum temperatures have increased by 4°C. As on January 10, Santa Cruz observatory recorded minimum at 17.2°C but it was still 1°C below the normal.

Now, it is anticipated that easterly and southeasterly winds would continue to blow for another two to three days and minimums may rise marginally. Therefore, the winter chill which was persisting would disappear but still, Mumbaikars would witness cool and pleasant weather during the morning and night hours.
