Updated on April 16, 6:45 PM: Finally, Pune has crossed the 40 degrees mark with today's maximum temperature recorded at 40.1 degrees. With 40.1 degrees, Pune has also surpassed the maximum temperature of Nashik today, which is recorded as 39.0 degrees.

Original Story: Pune and Nasik are collocated in the same geographical region of Madhya Maharashtra having similar terrain and elevation of about 1500 feet. The twin cities are about 150 km apart on the leeward side of the Western Ghats. The second half of April and complete May is considered as the hottest period for the cities. However, Pune invariably scores over Nasik when it comes to extremes and historic records.

Pune and Nashik

Both the cities have been recording sizzling days ahead of extreme heat likely in the coming days. While Nasik has recorded day temperature in excess of 40 degrees for the last two days, Pune is just short of its recording 39.7 degrees on the 13th and 39.1 degrees on 14th April. Nasik recorded 40.2 degrees and 40.1 degrees on 13th and 14th April respectively. Hot days are ahead for both the cities. A maximum temperature of 41-42 degrees is likely during this week itself at both the locations. This will lead to heatwave conditions in the region without any relief for the next few days.
