The weather in north India especially over northwest and Indo-Gangetic plains is expected to change during the next few days. The prevailing easterly to southeasterly winds are likely to give way to cooler and dry winds from northwest direction.
Night temperatures in these regions are expected to fall marginally. Temperature in Delhi during the day will rise slightly in coming few days. But as moist winds will be less, the rise in temperature will not be felt much.
With the prevalence of northwesterly winds, the withdrawal of southwest monsoon will resume over northwest India. The withdrawal has been delayed this year due to constant reach of southeasterly winds from the Bay of Bengal.
Weather in east India will continue to experience the effect of cyclone Phailin. The storm has weakened into a low pressure area and now lies over Bihar. Under its influence, rain will continue to occur in east Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim for next 24 hours. Rain could be moderate with one or two heavy spells at some places.
Similar weather conditions will prevail in the northeast region as rain could occur at many places during the next two days.
Southern Peninsula will also experience rain during the next two days. It will occur at a few places over Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Westerly winds from the Arabian Sea are changing into southwesterly winds to usher in rain over southern Peninsula.
