Several parts of Northeast India continued to witness light to moderate rain on Monday on account of the pre-monsoon season picking up the pace.
In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am, Mazbat in Assam recorded 11.2 mm of rain, followed by Lakhimpur at 6 mm. In Arunachal Pradesh, Pasighat received 11.4 mm of rain while Itanagar got 3 mm.
Imphal, the capital city of Manipur, recorded 6.4 mm of rain. Similarly, Kohima in Nagaland recorded 7 mm.
As reiterated by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, a low-level cyclonic circulation over West Bengal and adjoining Odisha along with an anticyclonic circulation over Bay of Bengal has been giving rain over the region with varying intensity.
Most of the places have already recorded over 100 mm of rain in just the first six days of the month. Let us have a look at the rainfall figures at some places till April 7:

According to the latest forecast by Skymet, both systems will continue to give moderate rain over Northeast India, with isolated heavy showers at some places over the period of next 48 hours.
The region is expected to get a brief respite from continuous rainy spells over the weekend as both the systems become less marked.
In March, when the entire North and Central India had been witnessing surplus rain, Northeast India hardly saw any weather activity and remained rain deficit. However with April, the region enters into pre-monsoon season during which it witnesses frequent rainy spells with fluctuating intensity.
