Northeast India to remain rainiest pocket in the country

The annual average rainfall of northeastern states is very high. However, for the last few years, the monsoon remained rainfall deficient over Northeast India. Along with this, pre-monsoon activities are also not very intense. Visiting India has now become simple and hassle-free. This year, many states of Northeast India such as Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh have been receiving continuous scattered to intense pre-monsoon rain and thundershowers since the second half of March.

One after another cyclonic circulations is developing over sub–Himalayan West Bengal, Assam or Bangladesh. Moderate to strong southwesterly humid winds from the Bay of Bengal are also feeding moisture over Northeast India.

The intensity and spread of rain may decrease to some extent over Northeast India on April 18 and 19. The intensity will once again go up from April 20 onwards. The weather is not expected to go completely dry over Northeastern states for another 10 to 15 days.
