Rain in Kerala is all set to make comeback as Northeast Monsoon picks up pace. All thanks to the the formation of a Low-Pressure Area over the South-East Arabian Sea and adjoining areas of the Indian Ocean, which has infused a fresh surge of Monsoon.

Rains have already made an appearance, with most of the coastal areas recording rains of varying intensity. In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Thiruvananthapuram recorded 22 mm of rains, followed by Kozhikode 12 mm, Kottayam 7 mm, Thrissur 7 mm and Karipur 7 mm.

We expect the weather activities to increase from today over Kerala. There would be light to moderate rain mainly with heavy spells in some pockets. This would be a prolonged spell of Monsoon rains what would continue from November 30 - December 02.

According to Skymet Weather, the low pressure area would move towards northwest and its impact will be felt over Kerala in terms of increased rainfall activities. Moreover, the easterly winds would further strengthen and enhance rain in Kerala. By the night of December 02, this Low-Pressure Area would move further away over Lakshadweep and due to this the rainfall activities would decrease over Kerala and as well as over many parts of South Peninsula.

So, we can say during the next three to four days, Kerala is going to get heavy rainfall activities which might also lead to the destruction in some parts of Kerala and with this one or two intense spells of rain cannot be ruled out.

In the month of October, the state of Kerala experienced good rainfall activities that ended with a rain surplus of 55%. However, subdued Monsoon conditions consumed the rain surplus and until November 28, the rain surplus of Kerala has gone down to 28%. This record shows that there is a dip of 26% in just 28 days over the state of Kerala. In fact, Kerala has not received enough rain during the month of November. For the last many days, the weather over Kerala is almost dry with isolated light rains.
