Monsoon Rains in West Bengal and Odisha

At present, unseasonal rains are once again expected to reappear over Odisha and West Bengal. While, Odisha will start receiving rain and thundershower activities January 28 onward while Gangetic West Bengal will start receiving rains and thundershower activities in the morning hours itself. These rain activities will remain concentrated to the evening and night of January 28.

These rain activities will continue until the night of January 29. By January 30, rains will start fading away. However, isolated rains may continue over North coastal Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal on January 30 also. Thereafter, rains will disappear.

These rain activities will be witnessed in the wake of a Western Disturbance which will start affecting Western Himalayas anytime soon. Also, a Trough will extend from Punjab up to East Uttar Pradesh. At the same time, Northwesterly winds will merge with Southwesterly winds from Bay of Bengal in the wake of an Anti-Cyclone.

These rains and thundershower activities might be accompanied by strong winds at isolated pockets. One or two places might even see lightning strikes. Day temperatures will subside however minimum temperatures may increase by two to three degrees. Minimum temperatures will drop once again after the passage of these rains.
