June 1, 2018 4:31 PM |

Rainy days ahead for Bengaluru, good showers soon

Bengaluru has witnessed on and off rains for almost the entire month of May. In fact, the city recorded some good rains during the second and third week of the month. So much so that the city did not saw many dry days throughout the month but the intensity kept on varying.

It was due to these spells, Bengaluru was able to surpass its monthly mean of May by a big difference. The state capital recorded a total of 240.2 mm of rains as compared to its monthly mean of 107.4 mm. However, the rains reduced soon.

The reason for the reduction in these rains can be attributed with the passage of the well-marked low-pressure area which was prevailing in Southeast Arabian Sea.

As of now, rains would continue to witness a reducing trend as no significant weather system is expected to form over the region. However, as southwesterly winds are prevailing over the region, pre-Monsoon activities are expected to continue over the city.

At present, Southwest Monsoon has covered entire coastal Karnataka and has progressed to some more parts of interior Karnataka. However, Bengaluru and parts of South Interior Karnataka are still waiting for the arrival of Southwest Monsoon which is expected to arrive by June 3.
