Monsoon has long covered Peninsular, Central and East India. It has also advanced over entire Madhya Pradesh, most parts of Uttar Pradesh and the northern hills. The extreme southern parts of Gujarat started receiving Monsoon rains from June 22, as was anticipated by Skymet Weather.
As of now, Southwest Monsoon is vigorous along the West Coast. In fact, heavy Monsoon rains have been lashing Coastal Karnataka and Konkan & Goa for quite some time now.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Mangalore received 109.2 mm of rainfall while Karwar received about 108 mm. Other parts of the region also received heavy rains but missed the 100 mm mark. Agumbe recorded 78.6 mm, Honavar 68.1 mm and Panjim 56.5 mm. In Kerala, Kannur recorded 85.6 mm rainfall and Kozhikode 75.4 mm.
Cherrapunji in Meghalaya has been receiving more than 100 mm of rain for the last couple of days. However, on Wednesday the city remained below the 100 mm mark and recorded 81.9 mm of rain.
Weather models suggest that two cyclonic circulations are developing on either side of the Indian coastline. Due to these weather systems, Monsoon rain intensity is expected to pick up pace over entire Peninsular India after 48 hours.
