Parts of northern plains experience fog

December 9, 2013 2:07 PM |

Even as winter struggles to make a full fledged entry in North India with temperatures staying close to normal, there are a few places in the region that are experiencing cold weather and fog.

Amritsar in Punjab experienced dense fog Sunday midnight onwards till late in the morning. In between the fog became very dense for a couple of hours and visibility almost became zero.

Delhi also witnessed some fog last night, particularly from midnight to early morning. The visibility in the city during this period dropped to 350 meters.

Situation in the capital of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow wasn’t any different. Here too very dense fog enveloped the city for about two hours during early morning today and visibility dropped to zero. Lucknow, in the last couple of weeks has been witnessing low minimums and has been one of the coldest cities in the region.

Fog in North India  is being witnessed due to the passage of two Western Disturbances in quick succession, affecting Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining areas. We expect fog in Delhi and North India to become more frequent as we move towards the middle of December, when temperatures are expected to drop further and winter actually sets in.
