These rains can be attributed to a feeble trough that has developed over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining North Tamil Nadu Coast. With the presence of this trough, some districts of both the regions received moderate showers.

As per Skymet Weather, this weak trough is likely to persist over the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu. Therefore, scattered rains will continue over Chennai, Puducherry and nearby parts.
