Phalodi in Rajasthan blisters as mercury peaks at 49°C

May 18, 2016 10:45 AM |

Weather in PhalodiIndia has been battling oppressive heat ever since the beginning of summer season in India. Further as we progress in the thick of the summers, we fear that mercury has something more dangerous in the store.

Particularly, Rajasthan where day maximums are soaring to new levels every days. Phalodi is on the verge of burning as it recorded maximum temperature of 49°C on Tuesday.

The desert city has been reeling under the severe heatwave conditions for several days now. According to Skymet Weather, unexceptional hot weather coupled with the geographical features of the city makes it prone to extremely hot weather conditions. Phalodi has a sandy terrain which tends to catch up heat very soon.

In absence of any significant weather system, hot and dry northwesterly winds have been blowing from Pakistan which is also witnessing similar conditions. As per the weathermen at Skymet Weather, mercury keeps increasing the longer these winds travel over the land.

Moreover, we do not foresee any weather activity soon and thus, no respite is likely for at least next 48 hours.

Not only Phalodi, other cities of Rajasthan are also under the grip of severe heatwave. Most parts of the state are recording day maximums above 45°C.
