Vaishno Devi

It is that time of the year when schools are shut and parents take leave from offices to either go on a holiday or embark on some pilgrimage. The Vaishno Devi shrine in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is therefore visited by hundreds of devotees across the country -particularly North Indians due to its proximity to the region- during this time of the year.

For many, it is also a fun trip along with paying obeisance to the deity. So it becomes important to know how the weather is going to turn out for a week in this beautiful holy place Vaishno Devi.

According to senior meteorologists at Skymet, dry weather condition is prevailing in Vaishno Devi since December 22 when there was rain in the region. This condition (Dry weather) is going to prevail for another 3-4 days there.

Around December 30 when a fresh Western Disturbance approaches the hills, the weather in Vaishno Devi will take a turn. Rain and snowfall are expected between December 30 and New Year 2020 due to the weather system. Pilgrims to the holy shrine are therefore advised to make proper arrangements to combat the weather condition.

Meanwhile, the night temperature has dropped drastically in the region. According to the data available with Skymet, the minimum in Vaishno Devi is settling close to the freezing point while Katra the base camp for a trek up to the shrine recorded a minimum of 4.2 degrees Celsius today morning.
