Places where rain broke records on Monday

The confluence of winds from both sides of  the Peninsula continued to bring rain in Central and some part of south India on Sunday. Due to this, several places registered record rainfall in a span of 24 hours in last 10 years in the month of March.

Places that recorded heaviest rain in last 10 years

Chandrapur recorded 45.2 mm of rain from 8:30 am on Sunday till 8:30 am on Monday. This is the highest ever rain in March in Chandrapur in last 10 years. Interestingly, the average rain for the month of March in Chandarpur is 12.6 mm.

Parbhani, another weather station in Maharashtra recorded highest ever rain (52.3 mm) in the month of March from 8:30 am on Sunday till 8:30 am on Monday. Parbhani has not witnessed such large amounts of rain in recorded history. The earlier record was 46.5 mm, on 13th March, 1927.

Second heaviest rain in last 10 years

Aurangabad recorded 17.2 mm of rain from 8:30 am on Sunday till 8:30 am on Monday. It is the second highest rainfall in Aurangabad after 25.4 mm recorded on 10th March, 2006

Koraput in Odisha recorded 38.6 mm of rain from 8:30 am on Sunday till 8:30 am on Monday. This is the second best figure of rain in Koraput after 47 mm recorded on 12th March, 2006.

Ramagundam in Andhra Pradesh witnessed 36.8 mm of rain which is again the second highest after 72.4 mm recorded on 24th March, 2008.
