Pleasant days to bid adieu to Chennai, Summers to set in soon

February 3, 2020 4:30 PM |

While North India continues to enjoy Winters at present, temperatures have already started shooting in the southern parts of the country. In the month of January, the maximums in Chennai remain in the range of 20 to 30 degree Celsius.

February, on the other hand, comes as a transition month. This is the month when northeasterly humid winds blowing over Chennai and rest coastal parts of Tamil Nadu start weakening. The region sees a diffusing pattern and the northeasterly winds are combined with southwesterly winds.

As a matter of fact, the Sun starts travelling northward January 13 onward, which is responsible for causing these changes.

The beginning of February comes a breather as compared to the second fortnight of February which sees an invariable rising trend in temperatures. This is when the day temperatures in Chennai even reach as high as 34 degree Celsius and a summery touch to the season ensues.

Also, the discomfort level increases manifold due to the hot and humid weather especially in the afternoons. As per records, while mornings remain 85 % humid, the afternoons are 60-70 % humid.
