Pre-Monsoon Rain and Thundershower Over North India, Hailstorm Likely

Day temperatures at some places in Haryana, like Rohtak, Hisar, Sirsa and Narnaul, have exceeded 41°C. Some pockets in Punjab, like Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala, have breached 38°-39°C. Bhatinda had the highest temperature in Punjab with 41.9°C. The rise in temperature and accumulation of heat is a sign of impending pre-monsoon activity.
A western disturbance is marked over the hills of North India. An induced cyclonic circulation is likely over North Punjab and border areas of Rajasthan on 09th April. The combined influence of these systems will trigger pre-monsoon thunderstorms over large areas of the northern plains between 09th and 12th April. Hailstorms may accompany a few places as well.
The foothills of Punjab and Haryana and the adjoining parts will have the weather activity, starting on 09th April. This will extend to cover parts of West and North Rajasthan on 10th Apr 2025. The spread and intensity will increase on 11th April to have simultaneous coverage for Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh. The weather activity will vacate most parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan the next day, on 12th April. It will continue over Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and some parts of North Madhya Pradesh. On 11th and 12th April, extensive rain and thundershowers are likely over Amritsar, Pathankot, Bhatinda, Ferozepur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Ambala, Hisar, Rohtak, Sirsa, Karnal, Delhi, Meerut, Moradabad, Bareilly, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahar, Noida, Gurugram and Faridabad. Hailstorms may also accompany the 11th evening/night.
It is understood that Rabi crops are ready for harvest at many places in North India. It will be difficult for the farmers to harvest and secure the yield on short notice. Therefore, it is advised to wait for this wet spell to get over and commence operations after 12th April 2025. There could be light weather activity on 16th April in some areas, but the scale and cover will be brief and small. Broad clearance is expected the next day, 17th April 2025.
