Rain is a very common weather phenomenon for the Northeastern states of the country almost throughout the year. In the month of March, until now, almost all the states have recorded Pre-Monsoon rains. In fact, during the past day, many districts were able to record scattered light to moderate rainfall activity.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Lengpui recorded rain to the tune of 11 mm, followed by North Lakhimpur and Kohima at 8 mm, Imphal 6 mm and Silchar 5 mm. In the similar time frame, Majbat, Dibrugarh, Cherrapunji, Pet Jorhat and Tezpur witnessed very light rain.

As per Skymet Weather, light to moderate rain and thundershower activity is expected to continue over the northeastern states during the next 48 hours. Thereafter, the intensity of pre-Monsoon rain is expected to increase.

These rains would be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which is likely to form over Bangladesh and adjoining regions. This weather system is likely to increase the moisture content in the form of southwesterly winds.

Regions such as East Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, North Nagaland and a few parts of Tripura are expected to record good pre Monsoon showers. Meanwhile, remaining northeastern states would receive isolated rains only.

The weather during the day is likely to be pleasant and comfortable with cloudy to partly cloudy sky conditions.
