Pre-Monsoon rains to lash Mumbai by May 29, to continue until Monsoon arrives

Mumbai weather has remained hot and humid for quite some time now. However, Southwest Monsoon currents are strengthening over South Peninsula region and the Arabian Sea. Thus, advancement of southwest monsoon is in progress which is likely to result in light rain and thundershower activities with squally winds over Mumbai by May 29, onwards. The rain gods seem to bestow its blessings on this city, in just about a day.

The rains have remained absent from Mayanagri for about few days. Now, rains are all set to make a comeback once again. In fact, the intensity of rainfall is also likely to increase over this region with time.

an upper air trough is likely to develop from the northern parts of Arabian Sea up to the coastal region of Konkan and Goa. With this, light rain and thundershower activities may occur over the region May 29 onward and then pre-Monsoon showers are likely to intensify over this region, thereafter.

As the trough becomes well-marked over the area, pre-Monsoon activities will continue to appear over Mumbai until Monsoon 2017 makes an appearance over the city. Southwest Monsoon usually makes an onset over Mumbai after June 10.

With this, Pre-Monsoon activity is expected to begin over Mumbai and its adjoining areas by May end and will continue during the first week of June as well. These on and off showers will continue to persist over Mumbai, until Monsoon makes an appearance.
