Mountains and plains together, over north India are expected to witness fresh bout of snow and rain. Month of February will usher in much needed wet spell lasting for about 3 days, between 02nd- 04thFebruary. Harsh winter conditions prevailing over most parts right now, may get reprieve. This active system will be preceded by yet another disturbance, albeit confined to the mid and higher reaches of mountains of north India.
The last weather system lashed the entire region between 22nd and 24thJan. Fluffy snow in the hills and splash in the plains dragged January in to the rainiest month in the recent past. Plains will go scot free in the remaining days of the month, whereas highly elevated peaks may encounter yet another show of snow between 29th and 31st Jan. February will open its account on an active note with early snow for hills and welcome showers over the plains.
An active western disturbance is arriving on 02nd February with its support cyclonic circulation over the plains. Entire hilly states from J&K and Ladakh to Uttarakhand, sandwiching Himachal Pradesh, will encounter long spell of rain and snow between 02nd and 04thFebruary.
While the amount of snow could be heavy enough to promote ‘adventure’ but quantum of its accumulation may attach hardships in terms of blockage of highways. It may disrupt the road and air traffic, temporarily. Unlike the previous spell, Uttarakhand and neighboring Himachal Pradesh may bear the brunt of inclement weather. Already, surplus of rain and snow across the mountain states this winter, will shoot further to record levels.
Northern plains share may not be as big as the last one which was intense and vast, between 22nd and 24thJan. The weather system will make its presence felt with light showers on 02ndFeb, covering extreme North Rajasthan and foothills of Punjab and Haryana. The weather activity will accentuate and spread further to reach many parts of these three states.
National capital also will witness decent showers on 03rd and 04thFeb. On these days, rains will extend further to lash parts of Uttar Pradesh, as well. Peak intensity during this episode will be observed on 03rdFeb. While the action will start withering from 05thFeb onward, yet another western disturbance is likely to make appearance on the 06thFeb 2022.
