Since last few days, southern and coastal areas of Maharashtra have been witnessing good rains.  In fact, the last 24 hours remained the same and many places over the aforementioned regions have recorded light to moderate rains. While the remaining parts of the state have been experiencing dry and warm weather conditions.

Within the span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Sangli recorded moderate rainfall of 34.5 mm, Thane 33.5 mm, Pune 20 mm, Satara 19 mm, Kolhapur 15 mm, Nashik 11.5 mm, Vengurla 10 mm, Dahanu 9.5 mm, Aurangabad 9 mm, Beed 7.2 mm, Mumbai 6.5 mm, Mahabaleshwar 4.4 mm and Alibag 4 mm.

The reason for such good rains can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation which is seen persisting over east central Arabian Sea of Konkan Coast. An upper air trough is also seen extending from this system up to southwest Bay of Bengal.

Due to the presence of these weather systems, light to moderate rain and thundershower activities are expected to continue over the coastal areas of Maharashtra and South Madhya Maharashtra region during the next 24 hours.

Districts such as Pune, Kolhapur, Nashik, Aurangabad, Satara, Sangli, Thane, Beed and Vengurla will witness good rains during the similar time frame.

Thereafter, the intensity of these rains is likely to reduce gradually as the above-mentioned cyclonic circulation is expected to weaken. In addition to this, dry and warm winds are also likely to prevail over most parts of Maharashtra after 24 hours.

Likewise, places such as Akola, Washim, Amaravati, Wardha, Nagpur, Gondia, Parbhani, Latur and Chandrapur will reel under dry and warm weather conditions for the next few days.

Due to the weakening of the weather system, day temperatures are expected to rise significantly while the nights will continue to remain cool and pleasant. Moreover, the clouding over the state will also increase during this period.

Besides this, it is anticipated that dry and warm weather will continue to prevail over Vidarbha, Marathwada and rest parts of the state until October 19.

Later, from October 20 onward, fresh spells of rain are likely to begin over Vidarbha region and then will gradually embrace rest parts of Maharashtra.
