Punjab, Haryana to observe light rain in pockets; cold wave abates

Punjab post

After reeling under the tight grip of cold wave for last many days, Punjab and Haryana finally got some relief. All thanks to change in weather conditions. Parts of Punjab and Haryana have received scattered light rainfall activity on Tuesday as in the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Ludhiana and Ambala both recorded 0.2 mm of rain.

These rains have been attributed to the active Western Disturbance moving across the northern parts of Jammu and Kashmir and its nearby areas.  Due to the persistent cloud cover and change of wind direction from cold northwest to humid and warm southeast, minimum temperatures over most places in Punjab and Haryana have increased by 2˚C to 3˚C. Thus, cold wave conditions have also abated from most parts of both these states.

According to weathermen, the system would continue to affect the parts of these neighbouring states on Wednesday as well. In wake of this, we expect isolated light rainfall activity to continue over northern parts of Punjab and Haryana.

By tomorrow, the system would move away and we expect weather conditions to become almost clear and dry. However, moderate to dense fog will still continue in pockets of Punjab and Haryana.

This is not all as after a gap of 24 hours, i.e. on January 3, another active Western Disturbance will approach the Western Himalayas. Thus, during that time too scattered rain and thundershower activities are possible over many parts of Punjab and few parts of Haryana on January 5 and 6. Thus, we can say that till then cold wave conditions will not make come back.
