Heavy rain and snow have remained absent over the hills of North India since December 12. The Western Himalayan region has not witnessed many rainy and snowy episodes since then, despite occurrences of on and off Western Disturbances.

As per Skymet Weather, on and off Western Disturbances have approached the region, but failed to give a significant amount of rain and snowfall activity. The last 24 hours were also no different as the hilly states of North India namely Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand did not witness much rain or snow activities.

Skymet Weather reiterates that now a fresh Western Disturbance is likely to approach the Western Himalayas by tonight. This weather system is expected to give light to moderate rain and snow over the northern parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Srinagar may receive rain but chances of snow over the capital city are very less. Though the upper reaches of the state such as Gulmarg, and Pahalgam may witness rain and snow.

The isolated places of Himachal Pradesh, particularly the upper reaches of the state may receive rain and snow. These rain and snow activities are likely to continue until December 27 and by December 28, the Western Disturbance will move away but the remnant of this system may continue to give isolated rain over both the states of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.

On the contrary, not much weather activity is anticipated over Uttarakhand though the sky is likely to remain cloudy.
