Rain and thundershowers ahead for Kolkata, intense activity on March 5 and 6

The city of joy, Kolkata experiences a short span of winter that starts from mid-December and lasts till mid-February. Towards the second half of February, the maximums temperatures rise and settle somewhere beyond the 30s.

While, in the month of March, the maximums have the tendency to rise and settle between mid-30s. Day temperatures even approach 40 degrees Celsius during this time.

Rainfall activities increases in the month of March for Kolkata and the city receives 35 mm rains. The normal rainfall figures for March, are much higher as compared to the month of February.

Looking at the rainfall data, this time in the month of February, the city of Kolkata observed light rain of only 3.3 mm against the normal rainfall of 21 mm.

In the past 24 hours, Kolkata observed 6 mm of rain. And, at present, the conditions are quite conducive to see more rain and thundershower activities.

These rains were observed on account of the merging of different winds from the Bay of Bengal and dry north-westerlies.

This Confluence Zone will continue to shift eastwards in the next 24 hours. Also, a Cyclonic Circulation is lying over the northern parts and a Trough will be extending soon all along from the Delhi-NCR region across Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand up to Gangetic West Bengal.

According to our meteorologists, we expect more rain and thundershowers during the next 24 hours. Although these weather activities will continue until March 7, the intensity of rains will be more on March 5 and 6. The rain intensity will remain comparatively less on  March 7.

Not only the city of Kolkata, but its neighboring states such as West Bengal will also observe this spell of rain at the same time.

Due to this wet spell, we can expect an arrest in the maximums that will be settling around 30 degrees Celsius. Minimums will, however, settle around 19 to 20 degrees Celsius during the episode of this rainy spell.
