Rain, hailstorm likely in Punjab, Haryana; crop damage threat looms largeFresh spell of rains are all to drench several parts of Punjab and Haryana and during the next 24 hours. In fact, few places could also witness isolated hailstorm.

Places such as Amritsar, Chandigarh, Pathankot, Nawanshahr, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Ambala, Panchkula, Karnal are mostly likely to witness rain activity.

According to Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to the fresh Western Disturbance that has started affecting Jammu and Kashmir. It has also induced a cyclonic circulation over North Rajasthan and adjoining Punjab and Haryana. Both the systems are gradually moving in east direction.

In wake of this, sky conditions have already become cloudy to partly cloudy. Weathermen predict that isolated rains may commence tonight, but activity would be in full swing on Wednesday.

Early morning hours are the most favourable time for one or two spell of hail storms. These rains and thundershowers are also likely to drop the day maximums, while night temperatures will rise significantly on account of increased levels of humidity. Crop damage threat looms large.

With these approaching rains, threat of crop damage looms large over the region. At present, wheat crop is all set to be harvested. And with this spell, farmers are afraid that it may damage the standing crop. Both Punjab and Haryana are the prominent players for wheat production.

Early sown wheat crop is ready to harvest and late sown crop is in the ear formation stage, due to hailstorm both crops may suffer some damage. In chana crop hailstorm may induce flower shading that will impact seed formation. Early sown mustard crop is ready to harvest and due to hailstorm crop lodging may happen that may destroy the quality of the crop.

Not only this, late sown mustard crop is in flowering stage and hailstorm may induce flower shading. Ultimately poor seed setting may happen, grains may also shriveled due to which grain maturity will be impacted.
