Chennai rains

Northeastern parts of Tamil Nadu experienced moderate rain and thundershower at scattered places during the last 24 hours. In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday, Thiruthani recorded 26 mm of rain, followed by Dharmapuri 18 mm. While other parts remained dry and very warm.

These weather conditions occurred due to the presence of a cyclonic circulation over Southwest Bay of Bengal off Tamil Nadu Coast. As this system is weakening and moving westwards, rainfall activity will continue in parts of Tamil Nadu during the next 24 to 36 hours.

Places such as Chennai, Vellore, Salem, Dharmapuri, Coimbatore, Krishnanagar and Kodaikanal will witness light to moderate rain and thundershower activities accompanied with strong winds.

During the next 24 hours, sky conditions are likely to be partly cloudy. The development of thunderstorm is possible towards late evening hours. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 41 and 30 degrees Celsius respectively.

However, the southern parts of Tamil Nadu i.e. Rameswaram, Madurai, Kanyakumari, Theni, Tirunelveli, Ramanathapuram and Dindigul will remain dry and very hot with high day temperatures and extremely humid weather conditions.

After 36 hours, rainfall intensity will start decreasing over parts of the South Peninsula, but still, scattered rain and thundershowers will continue in parts of the state.
