Rain in Maharashtra increases, Monsoon inches closer

Maharashtra weather has taken a turn during the past few days resulting in pleasant weather conditions. In fact, rain gods have bestowing some kindness over the residents of Maharashtra. While coastal Maharashtra has recorded a few heavy spells as well.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Alibag recorded a whopping 70 mm of rainfall followed by Dahanu where 53 mm of rain was witnessed. Other areas to have recorded good rains include Harnai 46 mm, Mumbai (Colaba) 28 mm, Mumbai (Santa Cruz) 12 mm, Ratnagiri 31 mm, Malegaon 19 mm, Ahmadnagar 14 mm, Jalna 17 mmm, and Aurangabad 9 mm.

These weather conditions have been attributed to the feeble trough along the Coast. Also, a cyclonic circulation currently persists over the Mumbai coast.

Thus, as per weathermen at Skymet Weather, rainfall activity is likely to increase over the coastal areas of Maharashtra. In fact, heavy to very heavy rains with isolated extremely heavy rainfall cannot be ruled out over the coastal regions.

Not only this, the interior parts including Vidarbha as well as Madhya Maharashtra will also witness a few good spells of rain. Now, Southwest Monsoon will also make an onset over Mumbai and adjoining areas of Maharashtra in just a few more days.
