Rain in Kerala

At present, Kerala is the best performing state in terms of rain after Jammu and Kashmir. In fact, currently, it is rain deficient by only 2%.

Now, after a gap of almost four to five days, Kerala rains have once again made a comeback. During the last 24 hours, scattered light to moderate rains occurred over many parts of Kerala.

In the span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on, Chengannur (Alappuzha) recorded 37 mm of rain, Cherthala (Alappuzha) 31 mm, Mancompu (Alappuzha) 22 mm, Vaikom (Kottayam) 20 mm, Kottayam 17 mm, Ernakulam 11 mm, Kurudamannil and Kochi 10 mm.

These rains were a result of easterly wave which was active over Tamil Nadu. Now a trough is also seen extending from Southeast Arabian Sea to Southwest Bay of Bengal across Comorin region. Therefore, we expect scattered rains to continue over south Kerala for another 24 hours. Thereafter, intensity will go down and rain will be light and over isolated places.

By December 2, weather conditions over Kerala will once again become dry. In fact, dry weather will continue for the next two to three days. Another spell of rain is expected to effect Kerala around December 5. During that time, we expect light rains with moderate spells to occur. These on and off rains may continue until December 7.
