Rajasthan has been seeing on and off rain and dust storm activities for the past few days. Moreover, a Western Disturbance is at present over Jammu and Kashmir and will persist for the next 24 to 48 hours. The system has induced a Circulation over Southwest Rajasthan which is likely to give rains in Punjab and Haryana.
Thus, light to moderate rain and thundershowers along with dust storm activities are likely over North and Central Rajasthan along with northeastern Rajasthan. While Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Bikaner, Jaipur, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Alwar, Sawai Madhopur are expected to receive isolated to scattered activities in the next 24 to 48 hours, Jodhpur, Barmer and Nagaur will remain dry.
Thereafter, weather is likely to become dry and hot and the rest of May will not see weather activities as Western Disturbances may not be observed over the region anytime soon.
The state of Rajasthan is the only state in India which is at present in the category of large surplus in terms of rain. West Rajasthan is surplus by 113 percent and East Rajasthan is observing a surplus of 101 percent.
In the month of May, and later parts of April, on and off Western Disturbances had approached the Western Himalayan region inducing Cyclonic Circulations sometimes over West, North or at times over Central Rajasthan region.
Thus, on and off thunderstorm and dust storm activities were a regular feature over many areas of Rajasthan. However, dust storm activities were not very severe as compared to last year when severe dust storm activities had resulted in many casualties as well. Moreover, this time, rain and thundershowers were the dominating factors which led to surplus rains in Rajasthan. Its effect was felt over eastern parts of Rajasthan as well.
