Rain in Ratnagiri, Mangaluru, Kozhikode to continue

West Coast Rains 1

The West Coast of the country consists of Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala. It is one of the rainiest pockets during the Southwest Monsoon season. In fact, rains remain on the higher side and areas over this pocket even see four-digit rains during the entire Monsoon season.

This season also, Monsoon has mostly remained active over this region and there have been times when vigorous Monsoon conditions have also been observed over the region. Some places have also seen regular three-digit rainfall activity over these pockets as well.

The last 24 hours were also quite rainy for the West Coast with moderate showers occurring over some pockets. In fact, some areas have also seen heavy showers. These rains can be attributed to the off-shore trough which has once again become active and is currently extending right from North Maharashtra Coast up to Coastal Kerala region.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Santa Cruz in Mumbai recorded a whopping 59 mm of rains, Karwar 50 mm, Dahanu 46 mm, Colaba 44 mm, Vengurla 40 mm, Ratnagiri 35 mm, Harnai 34 mm, Kozhikode 31 mm, Thiruvananthapuram 34 mm, Honnavar 31 mm, Punalur 21 mm, and Mangaluru 20 mm.

As per Skymet Weather, moderate to heavy rains are expected to persist along the West Coast including the regions of Konkan, Goa, Coastal Karnataka as well as Kerala at least for another 24 to 48 hours.
