Rain in South Maharashtra for next 24 hrs, minimums to plummet

November 21, 2018 4:51 PM |

Rain in Maharashtra

All the meteorological divisions of Maharashtra have received good spells of rain marking an end to the elongated break of dry weather in the past 24 to 48 hours. Vengurla recorded 42 mm in past 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Sangli 16 mm and Satara 7 mm.

Prior to this rainy episode, the sub-divisions like Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan and Goa had remained dry since November 8 while rains were far away from Vidarbha throughout October and November.

The recent rains were beneficial for the restoration of soil moisture which had been continuously deflating but then they turned to be harmful to standing crops like grapes. Even sugarcane sustains the damage of these spells.

At present, a trough is extending from South Konkan and Goa to Southwest Madhya Pradesh across Madhya Maharashtra. Hence, we expect scattered rains to continue over South Madhya Maharashtra and South Konkan and Goa, but the weather over Vidarbha, Marathwada and North Madhya Maharashtra will remain dry.

Furthermore, the minimums are expected to fall by 2 to 3°C during the next three to four days due to the flow of northerly-northeasterly winds over Vidarbha, Marathwada and North Madhya Maharashtra. Even temperatures in Mumbai may start plummeting by November 25.

Weathermen are not foreseeing any significant weather activity over Maharashtra for at least next one week.
