
The opening days of February 2025 have been warmer than normal. Both, day and night temperatures remained above normal for the last three consecutive days. The base station at Safdarjung recorded a minimum temperature of 10.2°C today, about 2°C above the average. Weather conditions are coming up for change, with rainfall likely over the next two days.
A western disturbance is marked over North Pakistan and adjoining regions. An induced cyclonic circulation is also marked over North Rajasthan and Haryana. Both the systems will move eastward and together will lash the mountains and plains simultaneously, over the next 2-3 days. Rain and thundershowers in the plains will commence with parts of West Haryana, East Rajasthan, Delhi and some parts of West Uttar Pradesh.
The seasonal anticyclone is getting pushed eastward, from Rajasthan to Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. This anticyclone is getting replaced with the induced Cyclonic Circulation. The combined influence of these systems is generating a convergence zone, triggering winter showers over Delhi, Haryana and contiguous parts. Rainfall is not likely to be heavy enough to disrupt traffic or trouble the commuters.
Day hours will remain bright and sunny today and clouds will start gathering in the night. The rainfall will commence past midnight and possibly in the wee hours. Tomorrow morning and afternoon will find intermittent and light to moderate showers in many parts of the capital city. Broad clearance can be expected late in the night on 04th Feb.
The month of Jan 2025 has remained relatively dry for Delhi. A total of 6.5 mm of rainfall was recorded against the normal of about 21mm. The upcoming spell may add about 5mm of rainfall. Yes, the temperature profile will change. The day temperatures will dip and the minimum temperatures will rise to continue in the double-digit for the next 2- 3 days. A drop in the minimum temperature to a single digit is expected from Wednesday onward. Moderate to dense fog will return back after the clearance of weather conditions, between 05th and 07th Feb. The next wet spell for Delhi/NCR is likely on the 10th and 11th of February.
