Rain to continue over Hyderabad

May 8, 2016 1:17 PM |

Rain to continue over HyderabadHyderabad was reeling under extremely hot weather conditions during the month of April. So much so that the city recorded 43 degrees Celsius as its maximum on April 22 which was the highest in 43 years.

As far as rains are concerned, the city only recorded 9 mm rain on April 17 and a few traces on other days. However, these rains were not enough to bring respite from the extremely hot weather conditions over the region.

However, the Char Minar city has been receiving on and off rains since the beginning of May. While isolated rainfall activity was observed over Hyderabad during the first three days of May, rains picked up pace on May 4 when 7 mm rain was recorded.

During a span of 24 hours between 8:30 am on May 5 and 6, Hyderabad recorded a whopping 75 mm of rain which happens to be the highest 24-hour rainfall in a decade for the month of May. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Hyderabad recorded 15 mm of rain.

These rains can be attributed to the wind discontinuity which is currently running across the Interior Peninsula and has also been giving rain over Bangalore. As the feature is likely to persist, Hyderabad may receive more rain during the next 24 hours as well. In fact, the possibility of a short spell during the evening hours cannot be ruled out.

Thereafter, the intensity of rain may decrease but on and off light rain is likely to continue for the next few days.
