Rain in Bangalore

After being dry and hot for a long period, Bengaluru has been finally witnessing on and off rain activity in the past 3-4 days. Ever since the start of the week, Bengaluru has been light pre-Monsoon showers. But good rain is finally on its way to batter the Bengaluru weather.

According to Skymet Weather Chief Meteorologist Mahesh Palawat, “At present two troughs are active over interior Karnataka. One trough is extending from north coastal Karnataka to coastal Karnataka and another trough is seen from south interior Karnataka to Comorin area.”

These two troughs have made sure that the moisture incursion from Arabian Sea is reaching south interior Karnataka. With such weather systems in place, chances of rain and thundershowers are over many parts of the region. And thanks to this system, Bengaluru is also likely to witness some good spell of rain and thundering activity.

We expect this rain activity to continue for next 48 hours. One or two moderate spells of rainfall cannot be ruled out. These rains will be confined to late afternoon and evening hours due to the increased humidity high rise of temperature. Such high levels of humidity and heat leads to build up of thunderclouds which normally gives rain.

At present, the temperature profile over Bengaluru is more than normal. Both maximum and minimum temperatures are 2 degrees above normal, but these rains will bring it back to normalcy. Bengaluru receives 41.5 mm of rainfall in the month of April and at this very moment the city has registered 22.2 mm of rainfall.
