Rains in Rajasthan damage Chana crop in Alwar, no impact on Wheat

April 5, 2017 6:50 PM |

Chana crop in IndiaAfter wreaking havoc in the last few days, heatwave have finally abated from the country. All thanks to the pre-Monsoon activities across the northwestern plains including Rajasthan.

During the last 24 hours, Rajasthan saw rains of varying intensity along with isolated episodes of dust storm, thunder storm and squally winds.

Though these activities have brought relief from soaring mercury but crops in few areas of the state have been affected.

Thanagazi tehsil in Alwar has reported a loss of 5%-10% in the Chana crop on account of rain and thundershowers last night. According to a farmer, they had harvested the crop couple of days before but it was left in the field for driage.

These pre-Monsoon showers did not affect the chana and wheat crop over rest of the state. We still need to wait for 15-20 days to begin the process of harvesting. Hence, threat of rains, thunder storm or thundershowers still looms large as Skymet Weather predicts these activities to continue for another 24 hours.

This year we are expecting quality of yield to reduce both in the case of wheat and chana. Blame can be given to abnormally high temperatures in March, due to which grains had shriveled that led to their early maturity.

Meanwhile, rains and thundershowers during this time will prove beneficial for Jowar crop, whose sowing season has just begun.
