The state of Uttarakhand has not seen heavy rains for quite some time now. This could be attributed to the Monsoon trough had shifted southward for quite a while.
However, during the last 24 hours, the axis of the Monsoon trough has shifted northward and is now running along the foothills of the Himalayas, close to the state of Uttarakhand. Whenever such a situation is observed, the state becomes vulnerable to good rainfall activities.
The last 24 hours have also seen some rainfall activities making an appearance over the state. In fact, in the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Almora saw 3 mm of rains, Dehradun recorded 7.4 mm of rains, Haridwar 1 mm, Mukteshwar 7.2 mm, Mussoorie 0.4 mm, Nainital 9.5 mm, Pantnagar 2.1 mm, Pithoragarh 8.2 mm, Pithoragarh 0.6 mm.
As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, rains will moderate to heavy during the next 24 hours over the state of Uttarakhand in view of the axis of Monsoon trough. In fact, the possibility of flash floods in some parts of the state cannot be ruled out as well. Moreover, the threat of landslides and mudslides may occur in some parts.
