Rains to reduce along the West coast; Konkan and Goa to get moderate showers

The west coast of the country has been receiving very good rains in the month of July and the trend of observing good rains is continuing at present as well. An off shore trough which is extending from North Maharashtra to North Kerala coast is the main reason for these hefty rains across the West Coastal region.

Though now this trough is likely to weaken gradually and hence the rain intensity along the coastal belt, especially towards the south coastal region is likely to reduce. However, scattered light rain is still a chance in the southern Peninsular region particularly in Kerala and Karnataka. On the contrary, mainly moderate with isolated heavy rain is a chance over Konkan and Goa region.

In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Friday Veraval recorded 121 mm of rain, Dahanu 80 mm, Santacruz observatory in Mumbai 87 mm, Alibag 67 mm, Harnai 63 mm, Porbandar 32 mm, Mangalore 31.1 mm, Cannur 38 mm, Honavar 13.4 mm, Vengurla 13 mm, Goa 10 mm, Alapuzha 11 mm and Ratnagiri 7 mm.

At present Konkan and Goa is rain surplus by 17 percent, Mumbai by 14%, Ratnagiri 11%. However, coastal Karnataka is rainfall deficit by 11 percent.
