Pre-monsoon rains blessing Maharashtra

A low pressure area is persisting over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha – Andhra Pradesh coast for the last 3 days. The weather system is nearly stationary and lashing Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh with moderate rain and thundershowers. The state of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh is likely to have more rains on 06th October. The peripherals of the system will give rains over West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh.

The low pressure area is likely to move inland crossing South Odisha - North Andhra Pradesh coast in the next 24 hours and extend its reach to parts of East Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra on 07th and 08th October. The weather activity is going to be reinforced with a possible depression coming up in the Bay of Bengal and tracking closer to the coast on 09th or 10th Oct. The spread of rain belt will increase to cover most parts of Telangana, Maharashtra, and East Madhya Pradesh.

The shortfall due to poor rains in the first few days of October is likely to make up in this wet spell. It also stands a chance to go above normal as some more systems are waiting in the wings to keep the Bay of Bengal active. Amid all this intense weather activity, the guard needs to be raised to prepare for the cyclone season threatening the entire east coast.
