Updated on March 29 at 11:45 am: As reiterated by Skymet Weather, few parts of Assam and Manipur recorded pre-Monsoon rains in the last 24 hours. It is expected that these rains would continue for the next three to four days across all the northeastern states in varied intensity. The intensity of showers is expected to rise gradually over Northeast India.

Updated on March 29 at 11:45 am: The northeastern states have been recording light to moderate scattered rains for the past few days. In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Lengpui recorded 13 mm rain, Shillong 6 mm and Guwahati 1 mm.

These rains can be attributed to the trough which is extending from Bihar to Manipur across South Assam.

As per weathermen, this trough is likely to persist. Therefore, we expect scattered light to moderate rains to continue over Tripura and Mizoram for the next few days. Meanwhile, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland may record isolated rainfall activity.

Not only this, rains are all set to increase soon. As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over Bangladesh and adjoining parts of West Bengal around March 31. In wake of this weather system, rainfall activity is expected to witness a significant increase over the northeastern states.

States such as Mizoram and Tripura are likely to record heavy to very heavy rainfall during that time. In fact, scattered pre Monsoon showers will also appear over Manipur, Meghalaya, and Nagaland. Meanwhile, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh might also record light rains at a few stations.

These showers are likely to stay for at least good three days. Thus, March will end on a rainy note and April will begin on a rainy note for Northeast India.
