Updated on Aug 2, 6:30 PM:

Rain in Rajkot has now intensified. Until 2:30 pm, Rajkot had recorded only 4 mm of rains. Meanwhile, a convective cloud patch was over the Rajkot region due to which intense rains were seen after that which streets were waterlogged.

In fact, in the last three hours, Rajkot has recorded a whopping 71 mm of rains causing massive traffic jams in many parts. Thereafter, rains will continue.

As of now, a trough is extending from Gujarat to North Bay of Bengal across North Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand. This trough is about 4-5 km above sea level. Thus, with the influence of this trough, thunderstorms and thundershowers have been lashing parts of Gujarat. Particularly, Morbi, Rajkot, Surendranagar etc.

We expect rains to subside from tomorrow. However, isolated light rains may continue in some parts. Weather activity in terms of rains will be more over eastern districts of Gujarat wherein places like Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Palanpur, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Valsad, Panchmahal will see good rains.

On the other hand, the city of Rajkot will see reduced rains and will remain the same for the next few days at least. Next spell of rains will be seen over Rajkot around August 8 or 9 and many parts of Gujarat which includes Central and northern parts.
