Rain in Jharkhand

During the first ten days of March, the weather in Bihar and Jharkhand has almost been dry wherein Bihar is rain deficient by 83% and Jharkhand by 56%. However, due to occasional development of confluence zone over East India, particularly over Jharkhand and West Bengal, isolated rains were witnessed over these two states on March 3.

A trough is now expected to develop over Jharkhand and adjoining parts of Bihar between March 13 and 15. Isolated rains are expected to commence on March 13 over parts of Jharkhand and on March 14, the intensity and spread would increase. Hence, many areas of Jharkhand would witness light to moderate rain and thundershowers. On the other hand, rain over Bihar would be patchy in nature. By March 15, weather in Bihar is expected to become dry, while some parts of Jharkhand might continue to receive light rains.

The average rainfall for the month of March is very less for these states, therefore few short spells of rain might improve rain deficiency of Jharkhand, but we do not expect much improvement in Bihar.

As we progress into the pre-monsoon season, rains would increase. During April we expect thundershower and lightning activities to increase and become intense over East India including Bihar and Jharkhand. Intense thundershower accompanied with lightning strikes is famously known as Kal Baisakhi or Nor’westers

Ranchi, Daltonganj, Bokaro, Dhanbad and Hazaribagh in Jharkhand would witness light to moderate rain and thundershowers between March 13 and March 14. Whereas, Aurangabad, Gaya, Nawada, Bhagalpur in Bihar would witness light rains. However, Patna stands a very rare chance of witnessing rain.
