Our nation celebrates its 76th Republic Day on 26th January 2025. The Indonesian President, his Highness Prabowo Subianto will grace the occasion as a prestigious chief guest. India’s Republic Day parade is a stellar display of its military might and national pride. The festivities, which originated in 1950 at Irwin Theater to its current location at Kartavya Path include showcasing the cultural diversity and rich heritage through the tableaux. The spectacular show concludes with a breathtaking majestic ‘flypast’ by the Indian Air Force.

Weather plays a very significant role in the conduct of the ceremony. The preparations include workouts for long hours and for weeks together. The marching contingents brace the winter chill in the wee hours, practising for nearly one month to bring in the perfection of its own kind. Surely, it could not be better than that, at any cost.

The western disturbance has already cleared the mountains. Cold northwesterly winds are blowing down the slopes of snow-clad mountains, sweeping northern plains and the capital city. The winter chill, which at times is complete with a frigid blast, will mercifully be kind enough to spare the event of freezing cold. Still, the minimum temperature will dip to a single digit and may hang around 7°C. Winds are likely to be moderately strong in the lower levels and will, therefore, disperse the obscurity. Dense fog is unlikely during the show and it could be just a misty morning and shallow fog in patches. The threat of precipitation is ruled out, in toto. Yes, the spectators will have to face the typical winter chill in the morning hours. The horizontal visibility will be good for having a clear view of the marching contingents and the tableaux of various states, including one from the weather department, the first of its kind, as part of the display. Even, the vertical and the slant visibility will be decent enough to appreciate the flying manoeuvres, including the ‘Vertical Charlie’.

The least weather activity is expected across the length and breadth of our country. Suitable weather conditions are likely across the plains and mountains on Republic Day. Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Shillong, Guwahati, Patna, Lucknow, Jaipur, Bhopal, Shimla and Srinagar are likely to observe seasonal weather without any disruptions on the festive day.
